Foreign lighting titans including Philips Electronics NV (PHG.AS), Osram - partly owned by German engineering conglomerate Siemens AG (SIEGn.DE) - and General Electric Co (GE.N) should emerge as winners due to their financial clout and technical expertise, industry experts say.
Philips and Osram, which have traditionally focused on conventional lighting in China, have ramped up production of LED high bay light. Osram, which employs 8,000 people in China, started construction of its first-ever LED chip packaging plant in China in August, a 100,000-square-metre complex in the eastern city of Wuxi, using chips made in Germany and Malaysia.
LEDs are mainly used in street lighting, shopping malls, upscale hotels and office buildings. To accelerate a broader shift to efficient lighting, China in October started to phase out wasteful incandescent bulbs, joining other countries like the United States and Japan.
The diodes, semiconductors that convert electrical current into light, are much more efficient than the two dominant products for home and commercial lighting, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and incandescent bulbs. LED lights are longer lasting and up to 10 times more efficient than incandescent bulbs.

LED chip makers use sapphire wafers
Currently, almost all LED chip makers use sapphire wafers, while few of them are willing to change production equipment to adopt GaN-on-Si epitaxial wafers. However, he emphasized that GaN-on-Si technology is a long-term development for large-size LED epitaxial wafers.
MD of LED Lighting Depot Andrew Littler said: “We’ve got two clear advantages over our competitors: a Payback Calculator that helps consumers make informed decisions about their purchases; and an exclusive range of high-quality bulbs in the form of the Lumaera range – which offer great value for money and feature Phillips LEDs.
“Unlike other LED retailers, our confidence in the range of products we stock means that we also offer a Five Point Promise covering Quality, Reliability, Savings, Certification and Value. Industry-leading warranties and accurate technical specifications are just two of the areas the Promise covers – giving consumers complete peace of mind that they are buying a durable, high-performance bulb.”
The Payback Calculator works by incorporating the total wattage amount for items in the basket, how many hours per day the lights are used and for how many days per week, as well as the amount per unit of electricity the customer pays. It compares these details with the equivalent cost for filament lighting products to give an annual saving amount, payback period for the investment in LED bulbs and the total lifetime saving made by switching to LED lighting.

while promoting environmental sustainability
Together, Cree and ALT have overcome the technical challenges of providing a warmer colour, at a temperature of 2200K, while maintaining a high luminous efficacy, especially with indoor applications such as restaurants and galleries. In fact, the A55 bulb and PAR lamp, from ALT, were specifically designed for exactly this type of market, where the lighting must not be harsh or intrusive or distort the illuminated area's ambient colour tones. At the same time, the Cree? XT-E 2200K CCT LED retains all the power-saving properties of LED lighting technology, enhancing the value proposition for customers, while promoting environmental sustainability.
"Cree is the market leader in LED technology, offering its customers innovative technology and excellent, high-performance products," said James Liang, CEO at ALT. "ALT has been collaborating with Cree for over five years now, and use of Cree's products has consistently allowed us to better position ourselves in the market. A recent design win with a restaurant at a top tourist destination in Mexico, Playa del Carmen, is a perfect example implemented by CB LED Iluminación (one of ALT’s top distributors). The restaurant's clientele like a warm, calm light that perfectly complements their relaxed mood while they sample the delights of a Mexican menu. Our MR16 lamp delivers on that promise. At the same time, the restaurant management, by using 7W ALT LED lighting, is saving 85 percent of the energy that would be consumed by the alternative option, 50W halogens.”
ALT is a pioneer in the use of Cree LED products and a loyal customer who uses Cree LEDs in most of its product designs. ALT's MR16 lamp is the first Cree XT-E 2200K LED design win in Taiwan and it demonstrates how effectively the two companies have cooperated to advance LED technology and how Cree's technology and products can help its customers achieve their market objectives.
"Teaming up with ALT, an LED lighting manufacturer who has won three of the world's major industrial design awards, has been a very rewarding venture for us,” said Soo Ghee Lee, Cree Managing Director, Asia. "LEDs are a global trend, reducing resource consumption, promoting energy conservation, and can help to reduce the cost of doing business. LED lighting is not only cost-effective, it is eco-friendly."

Making it easier for drivers to locate their vehicles
The anniversary is a good time to take a closer look at the results and lessons learned, with more than 80% of the LED fixtures planned for phase one deployed. The lessons learned are based on a presentation delivered by Ed Ebrahimian, Director, Los Angeles Bureau of LED high bay light, to the IES Street and Area Lighting Conference convened in Miami in September 2012.
Noribachi replaced the fluorescents with the popular LOWBAY vapor proof fixture. The new lights use about half of the energy while emitting a much brighter, cleaner light. Inside the parking structure this translates into an increased feeling of security and heightened color perception, making it easier for drivers to locate their vehicles.
Lining Manhattan Beach Boulevard, the City’s main thoroughfare, are historic lantern fixtures that also required an LED upgrade. This application demanded a retrofit of the lantern fixture to maintain the original aesthetics. In order to achieve this Noribachi created a custom LED solution designed to easily sit in the existing housing. Noribachi’s experience in diffusion allowed engineers to direct the light straight down inside of the existing lens, creating a glowing effect and shielding the individual diodes from view. Noribachi also used LEDs with a warm white color temperature to match the historic ambiance.
The showroom has been carried out in collaboration with the Austrian practice Innocad Architektur ZT and the UK’s Space Group Architects. The luminaires on show include XAL’s Helios which is shortlisted in the interior category for the 2013 Lighting Design Awards.

who rated purchase price as the most important factor
Many consumers will make their first LED lamp purchases in the next few years, and the market is entering a critical window for making a positive impact on consumers’ first impressions of LED technology,” said Eric Kim, CEO of Soraa. “However, for LED high bay light to achieve significant market share, consumers must be confident that these lamps can give them the light quality they need and want. With the emergence of next generation LED technology, these performance benchmarks have now been reached.”
McKinsey’s 2011 Lighting the Way report suggests that consumer and commercial lighting purchase decisions are driven as much by light quality, as they are by the cost of the light bulb. Twenty percent of the residential respondents in the McKinsey report rated light quality as the most important decision criterion for lamp installation – which is on par with the 22 percent who rated purchase price as the most important factor. In all other market segments, light quality was by far the most important criterion.
“The slow market adoption of CFLs over the last 20 years demonstrates that simply because a product produces enough light, saves energy and is cost-effective, broad market adoption of that technology is not ensured. To persuade consumers to purchase LEDs instead of incandescent lamps, LED lamps must be seen as high-quality products worth the initial higher price differential. Therefore, LED lamps must closely replicate the color rendering and color appearance of the incandescent and halogen lamps that they replace,” said Carlos Alonso-Niemeyer, Energy Efficiency Program Manager of NSTAR a Northeast Utilities Company.
EPA pointed out in their latest draft lamp specification that lack of LED lamp color quality is a potential barrier to broader consumer adoption of energy efficient lighting. However, EPA went on to say that it will continue to monitor the market and explore opportunities for improving color quality and consistency of lamps in the future. Given the critical importance of this issue to increased adoption of LED lighting, groups told EPA that the time to address higher color rendering is now.
“Designers should have the flexibility to select the appropriate source for their applications and end users should have their right to purchase high color rendering or full spectrum lamps for their spaces,” said Chip Israel, President of the Lighting Design Alliance.

That kind of yellow paint is very sensitive to green and blue. I would advise museums not to use LED bulbs any more as they emit at lot of blue light.” The researchers used powerful x-rays to examine a series of paintings by Van Gogh. "We discovered that the Dutch master didn’t always use the same type of chrome-yellow paint. ”
Van Gogh also used a lighter lemon-yellow and a lighter-still primula-yellow. "These varieties have a different crystal structure, albeit combined with higher sulphur content. They react quiet adversely to light rays. After just a few days of our tests they changed colour from to brown and olive green. We discovered this unstable form of chrome yellow paint in a number of very well-known paintings like the 'Portrait of Gauguin” and the ‘Sunflowers’.
Beth Rundlett of DSM and committee co-chair, said that ,“UV LED technology has the potential to play an essential role in radiation curing industrial applications, RadTech’s technical efforts will further promote UV LED development and it's full integration into everyday industrial processes.”

US chipmaker Marvell Technology faces having to pay one of the biggest ever patent damage awards. A jury in Pittsburgh found the firm guilty of infringing two hard disk innovations owned by local university Carnegie Mellon. It said Marvell should pay US$1.17 billion in compensation—however, that sum could be multiplied up to three times by the judge because the jury had also said the act had been “wilful.”
Marvell’s shares fell more than ten per cent. The maximum penalty would be close to the $3.96bn value of the company, based on its market capitalisation. Marvell told the it would try to convince the judge to reverse the judgement, and would appeal if that failed.
The university’s law firm issued a statement saying it took “pride” in securing the award following Marvell’s failure to license the university’s intellectual property. Marvell makes a range of chips which includes processors which power devices including Blackberry smartphones, Sony Google TV internet video boxes and LED lighting controllers, as well as hard disks.

policy effects can create great opportunities as well as great challenges
The future trend of lighting energy lies in LED combined with solar energy. Except for common household lighting, LEDs are being applied in many different areas, such as automobile headlights and daytime running lights. SeekIC will make further developments and increase market shares in the LED field. For SeekIC and LED manufacturers, policy effects can create great opportunities as well as great challenges.
Toshiba Corporation will begin mass production of white LEDs on 200mm silicon wafers this month based on technology that it licensed and developed with Californian firm Bridgelux.Deployment of Toshiba and Bridgelux’s gallium nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Si) technology to produce LED chips, has allowed Toshiba to replace sapphire substrates and produce the chips on a more cost-competitive silicon substrate.
Production of LED chips is typically done on two to four-inch wafers with an expensive sapphire substrate but Toshiba and Bridgelux have developed a process for manufacturing gallium nitride LEDs on 200mm silicon wafers, which Toshiba has brought to its new production line at Kaga Toshiba Electronics Corporation, a discrete products factory in northern Japan.

LED lighting suppliers are making their products more affordable
This will encourage local LED manufacturers to compete for public works projects. Since industrial standards for LED lighting have not yet been finalized, the PIDA urges local governments to carry out strict inspection of LED streetlights to ensure quality.
Another happy development is that LED-lighting suppliers are making their products more affordable, and are making them available both at brick and mortar stores and on the Internet.
However, consumers have been left confused by the inconsistency of specifications defined by suppliers of 6-12W cool white LED bulbs used as 40-60W incandescent replacements. For instance, LED bulbs designed to replace 60W incandescent bulbs have been labeled by different suppliers with incandescent lumen ratings ranging from 420 to 810.

The same time improve electrical efficiency by alleviating problems of light trapped or lost in an LED chip
Another core technology in which Epistar excels is bonding technology that provides for flexibility in epi structure substrate selection. Epistar’s RD team has developed various bonding techniques with metal, glue, and dielectric materials so that the epi structure is not limited by its growth substrate anymore. Taking GaN-on-Si as an example, after nitride is grown on Si substrate, the epi can be transferred to a transparent or reflective carrier by bonding technology to avoid the light from being absorbed by opaque Si. In other applications, multiple LED structures with different light color can be bonded to one common substrate. With different bonding materials, LED can be disposed on different carriers depending on the application. For example, a widely-adopted low temperature metal bonding process provides robust mechanical support with optional reflector for light extraction enhancement, which makes a vertical blue LED possible at lower cost. Epistar’s innovative glue or dielectric bonding provides a transparent interface that provides the LED with the advantages of having stronger support and transparency, which is expected to be particularly useful in general lighting and LED display applications. Epistar has successfully obtained patents in this technology around the world, including in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.
For applications requiring high power, a larger size chip is normally preferred because it endures high current injection with high power efficiency. Epistar has acquired a portfolio of patents from a Swiss company directed to technology including the design of extension electrodes that can avoid the high cost associated with the process and at the same time improve electrical efficiency by alleviating problems of light trapped or lost in an LED chip.
As the first company to commercialize high-voltage chips (HV), Epistar has also developed several arrangements of multiple cells/junctions on one common substrate that can be driven by high voltage. With its delicate interconnection design, HV chips have excellent electrical properties and flexibility for diversified lighting applications. In addition to such unique structure, Epistar is known as the only chip maker that can provide full-spectrum products. As a result, Epistar can help customers by using its excellent red and blue chips with one or more cells/junctions for warm white applications. Design patents and utility patents related to this technology have been granted to Epistar in countries around the world including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.
Epistar’s RD team is full of energy and has a vision for the future. There are already several ready-to-go technologies in the patent portfolio that can embrace the LED lighting era to come. One representative work is to connect chips on one transparent base to form a filament-like structure for retrofit light bulbs or lamps. In addition, Epistar also obtained exclusive rights in remote phosphor field that contains an optical device in-between a wavelength converting device and an illumination source. With these patented technologies, Epistar can work with its customers to develop more competitive products and speed up the adoption of LEDs in lighting.

The opportunity to learn more about LED lighting technology for the home
Using just 11 watts of power while putting out over 830 lumens, the latest generation of Philips’ 60 watt A-19 LED bulb uses 10 percent less energy than its 12.5 watt predecessor, while increasing brightness by nearly 5 percent. The new lamp has an innovative new design that takes advantage of Philips AirFlux technology, a new airflow cooling system that eliminates the traditional distracting heat sink fins needed for thermal management of LED bulbs. Philips will be unveiling the new bulb at The Home Depot store on 59th Street in Manhattan on December 4th – 5th and at the 23rd Street store on December 5th-6th, offering consumers a $5 savings and the opportunity to learn more about LED lighting technology for the home.
Designed to exceed Energy Star specifications, the bulb will reduce energy consumption by 85 percent, last 25 times longer and save an estimated $134.00 in electricity costs during its lifespan, as compared to the traditional 60-watt incandescent. This LED bulb will also offer consumers two different color temperatures, Soft White and Daylight, while the new sleek white shape makes it ideal for open fixtures and sheer shades.
The new Philips A-19 LED bulb offers enhanced dimming capabilities, dimming down to 2 percent of power, while working with a broader range of dimmers. This further simplifies use and allows consumers to enjoy an effective, low energy solution for lighting in the home. For business users, particularly those within the hospitality sector, the new lamp will provide instant plug-in savings, through reduced energy and maintenance costs, in comparison with traditional bulbs.
“We continue to push the boundaries of LED technology to improve the performance of our products, enhancing their light quality, while improving their energy-efficiency,” said Ed Crawford, general manager of Philips Lighting. “This latest generation of our LED bulb eliminates the tell-tale heat syncs of LED technology enabling a classic design, while reducing energy consumption by 10 percent offering more light output.”

Rookie USA chose LED lighting for its first store for many reasons
Rookie USA chose LED lighting for its first store for many reasons: Long-term cost efficiency, less frequent lamp replacement, less heat emission resulting in less HVAC expenditure, and the design. “The design of the luminaires for general lighting was very important to us, because the space is an open plan. Additionally, the luminaries had to be functional but also unique. Phoster Industries was the vendor that could provide everything we were looking for,” Rookie explained.
Thanks to its tremendous energy efficiency over standard incandescent lamps, the LED solution will help to reduce annual energy costs by up to 85 percent. The Phoster lamps have a rated lamp life of about 50,000 hours, which almost makes lamp replacement unnecessary, another factor contributing to cutting costs. “By electing to use LEDs for the lighting at its new store, Rookie USA has made a pioneering move in terms of the many advantages of these tiny diodes,” says Douglas Mendelman, Director of Business Development at Phoster Industries. “The combination of the Golden Dragon Plus LED high bay light from Osram and our luminaire systems creates a pleasant atmosphere inside the new store, makes products look their best and lowers energy and maintenace costs at the same time.” Osram Opto Semiconductors and Phoster Industries have already collaborated successfully in the field of store lighting. The joint lighting solution therefore was Rookie USA’s first choice when it came to putting its products in the best possible light.
As part of a pilot study by the Public Works Commission, the city-owned utility plans to convert about 300 conventional streetlights to LED bulbs, which last three times as long and use about half the electricity.
The LED, or light-emitting diode, technology has become increasingly common in everything from traffic signals to flat-screen TVs. Big cities such as Los Angeles and Seattle are aggressively switching their public lighting over to LED fixtures to brighten streets and save money in the long run.

the dynamic projector lighting creates an irregular dynamic artistic lighting on the wall in the evenings
A particular highlight in the showroom is the “art wall”. This semi-transparent concrete wall can be highlighted in different ways with colour-changing LED light. RGB LED modules are used for backlighting the wall LED linear high bay light. Projectors with a rotating prisma are used to illuminate the wall from the front. These are also equipped with RGBA LED technology. The backlighting in combination with the dynamic projector lighting creates an irregular dynamic artistic lighting on the wall in the evenings.
Wennerstrm has also brought a little sky into the showroom as a further demonstration piece. A rectangular ceiling cut-out with an opaque cover, made to look like a skylight, is used to demonstrate the positive effect of tunable white light in a room without daylight. The tunable white light effect enables the entire white light spectrum from cold white through neutral white to warm white to be produced by a luminaire. It can be used, for example, to simulate changes in natural light throughout the day.
The new design for the Wennerstr?m offices will benefit not only the customers of this lighting distributor but also its employees. The lighting concept for the offices combines bright friendly background lighting from recessed ceiling downlights with task lighting from pendant luminaires. The LED high bay light fluorescent lamps in these pendant luminaires are switched and dimmed under daylight and presence control. The necessary input values are provided by SMART sensor. Lamp operation is managed by PCA EXCEL one4all digital dimmable control gear with xitec II technology. The uplight in the pendant luminaries is controlled by DALI and the downlight can both be manually adjusted via remote control and by DALI. This all together makes the lighting control very flexible, smart and efficient.

the best effect for the least energy and installation cost
Marl can accept a CAD drawing of the internal or external area to be lit, or a simple dimensional drawing, and will use 3D modelling software to choose the most suitable energy efficient LED lighting products, and place them to achieve the desired effect. In consequence, the right light level is available in each location, but the minimum of light leaks upwards or sideways into areas where it isn’t needed. Marl will then implement the scheme using standard or custom products that it manufactures based on leading edge LED lighting technology.
According to Adrian Rawlinson, Managing Director of Marl International, “Lighting can make or break the appearance of a building – making it welcoming, attractive and safe or conversely, threatening, unattractive and hazardous. LED lighting is energy efficient and highly directional – minimising the issue of wasted light. We have exact models of the light output of the products that we supply. Using the design tools we have, we can combine our models with customers’ designs and statements of requirements to come up with a lighting scheme that produces the best effect for the least energy and installation cost.”
Marl has successfully designed and implemented lighting schemes for a wide range of projects including, schools, offices, car parks, attractions and factories. Marl’s lighting solutions are based on technologies from world leaders like Citizen, Lighting Science and Bivar, which it integrates into finished and ready to wire luminaires that can be driven from the UK mains and meet the UK electrical standards and specifications. These products are designed, manufactured and tested under one roof at Marl’s manufacturing facility in Ulverston, England.
Vietnamese scientists are trying to create LED lamp products which have the light spectrum suitable with every kind of plant, which can help save electricity, churn out clean and off-season products.According to Dr Phan Hong Khoi, Managing Director of the high-efficiency public lighting project in Vietnam, LED is a special type of semiconductor diode which can generate a narrow spectrum, discrete light when excited. LED lamps can create different colors, depending on the semiconductor materials used and operating conditions.

the Green Proving Ground program to evaluate sustainable building technologies
According to the GSA, energy efficiency is becoming a way of life, not only to cut costs at more than 9,600 assets that it owns or rents, but also to meet the 2007 federal mandate that government buildings slash energy consumption 30 percent by 2015.
To meet those goals, and to push the whole market forward, it launched the Green Proving Ground program to evaluate sustainable building technologies. Based on performance, the GSA can then recommend technologies to its portfolio.
The GSA has already published findings on occupant-responsive fluorescent lighting, but now it has turned its attention to LEDs and controls.
As part of the Recovery Act, the GSA had more than 200 projects of lighting retrofits, but few were LEDs. “The Green Proving Ground GPG program is looking at the next generation of products that are targeting general office lighting, which is the great frontier,” said Kevin Powell, program manager for Green Proving Ground. The frontier has certainly moved to LEDs, which have come down significantly in price.

Lighting is reported to utilize its Zalaegerszeg based factory in Hungary to manufacture LED lamps by the end of 2012. It’s said that GE Lighting has greatly reduced its lamps business in Hungary since EU gradually phases out less efficient traditional light bulb.
LED products are growing exponentially in 2012 and particularly for “Curing related applications”. Traditionally, mercury lamps are used for curing purposes but with short lifespan and lengthy warm-up time. Besides poor efficiency, other shortcomings include; massive heat generation, radiation and ozone emission (both damaging to materials exposed); huge power consumption, and contains hazardous mercury.
It is to launch an LED development laboratory, reorganizing engineers from other Hungarian operations, while Oracle will set up an 'Applications Lab' in Hungary, increasing the current number of employees, which is 200, by 10%, and is looking to increase this.

infrastructure monitoring network for Automated Meter Reading
To help illuminate this point and the total estimated agreement period, Viper Networks may fulfill orders totaling 200,000 LED street light units. However, based on the city's manpower capabilities, the Company is factoring monthly order delivery numbers of 10,000 to 15,000 units based on direct guidance from recent meetings with city officials.
This conveys an approximate period of 15 to 20 months to complete delivery and installation of all 200,000 LED street lights.
Further, interested parties should note that each LED Street Light is priced in the range of $500 to $1000 or more per unit depending on built-in options (i.e. camera, sensor, wireless remote). Based on the lower 10k number of units installed monthly at the minimum cost of $500 each, the gross amount would equal $5,000,000 (USD) per month.
In connection with the Colombo municipal pilot project in Sri Lanka, one of the country's ministers has expressed a strong desire for a wireless remote access and infrastructure monitoring network for Automated Meter Reading, which will raise the price from the $500 minimum per unit cost and also serve as all-in-one housing unit models to attract new customers and officials from other cities and countries throughout the eastern hemisphere.

Lover Bridge was illuminated in white halogen lamps to show the diversities of style in recent 10 years. However, in recent years, environmental-protection consciousness has been continually enhanced; it is redesigned with the LED lighting fixture to replace the halogen lamps of higher power consumption and lower performance.
The lighting shows are edited with the concept of romantic rainbow to display the weekdays, holidays and special festivals with the different styles.
The Love Bridge is a white cable-stayed bridge with the single tower, steel wire rope and the new style is to redesign the outdoor lawn sculpture park and fountain with LED lighting fixtures. Controlled by ARC’s LED lighting total solution, the sleek bridge is installed with the ARC LED strips of the facilitated waterproof connector design which is to simplify the construction. The tower is installed with the full color LED lights of waterproof, corrosion resistant and lightweight design to resist the weather conditions.

efficient lighting does not have to mean compromising on a cozy atmosphere
When millions of visitors start streaming into the world’s biggest fair from September 22 to October 7, attention will center not only on good cheer, but also on the environment. While the Hippodrom is not the largest of the Oktoberfest beer tents, its commitment to the environment is all the greater: By replacing 550 incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient Osram LED lamps, the venue will be reducing CO2 emissions by some 1.2 tons at the Oktoberfest.
A total of 550 warm-white LED lamps from Munich-based Osram will be putting visitors, food and beverages in the right light and helping the environment at the Hippodrom’s 110th anniversary this year. Instead of 25 watts like the incandescent bulbs used before, the new lamps need only 5 watts of power to achieve the same brightness, meaning they will save 2,500 kWh of electricity during the 16-day Oktoberfest, equivalent to 1.2 tons or over 600,000 liters CO2. “Together with Osram, we are making the Oktoberfest a little bit greener. We would like to show that even when you’re celebrating, you shouldn’t forget the environment. At the same time, we want to demonstrate our support of efforts to achieve a more sustainable Oktoberfest,” explains Sepp Kr?tz, operator and host of the Hippodrom. The warm-white light demonstrates perfectly that energy-efficient lighting does not have to mean compromising on a cozy atmosphere. It produces a pleasant, welcoming setting, inviting guests to sway to the music and celebrate.
After the Hacker beer tent in 2007 and the L?wenbr?u tent last year, the Hippodrom is the third Oktoberfest venue to switch to energy-efficient lighting from Osram and make an important contribution to the environment. And more are to follow: “We are very pleased that the Hippodrom, one of the most well-known beer tents, decided to switch to an energy-saving lighting concept. Naturally our goal is to have all the beer tents illuminated in energy-efficient lighting in a few years, so that the Oktoberfest is good for both visitors and the environment,” says Klaus-Günter Vennemann, Osram’s CEO of General Lighting.

the change in purchasing behaviour that will result from familiar incandescent bulbs disappearing from the marketplace
Although an integrated communications strategy will be required to educate people about the impressive energy and money saving benefits of solid state technology, the appropriate standards and regulations must also be introduced to ensure that information is accurate and easily available. An issue that is ripe for reassessment is the set of standards by which lighting technologies are measured. These systems have often been unrepresentative of technology quality and put LED assets at a disadvantage; an obvious example being the LED high bay light practice of measuring the light quality at the point at which a bulb is first switched on rather than over its lifespan, thereby failing to reflect the long life and enduring quality of LED technology. The purpose of standards should be to evaluate technologies and protect consumers – and they must do so adequately and fairly.
It is not enough for such standards to exist; they must be accessible and present in the minds of consumers and other purchasers such as procurement professionals. The easiest way to achieve this would be to include the relevant information on packaging, which would facilitate like-for-like comparisons at point of purchase and allow price to be weighed against factors such as efficiency. After all, consumers will hesitate to pay more for a technology if its advantages are not immediately apparent and, unsurprisingly, 23% of customers surveyed by Consumer Reports cited cost as a key reason for avoiding LEDs.
Simply waiting for LEDs to reduce in price enough to no longer be considered an “investment” purchase is not an option for two reasons. First, becoming engaged in a battle to artificially drive down costs puts at risk the very thing that makes LEDs stand out in the lighting market - the superiority of their technology. Second, it is vital that we do not fail to capitalise on the change in purchasing LED linear high bay light behaviour that will result from familiar incandescent bulbs disappearing from the marketplace.
LED technology offers coherent efficiency, environmental and financial advantages across the board. It is crucial that we as an industry ensure these benefits do not stay in the shadows but are brought into the light for all to see.

These include tunable colour spots from Anoli
Further advantages of LED lighting are consistency of performance over the operating life of the fixtures and very high reliability. Led linear high bay light emitters radiate much less heat than tungsten lamps in the beam and the typical operating life is over 50,000 hours.
Entertainment lighting products that employ LED Engin emitters will be on display on the LED Engin stand and throughout the PLASA show. These include tunable colour spots from Anolis, full colour wall washes from SGM and GDS Liteware and stage lighting from Showtec.
LED Engin’s European Manager, Gerrit-Willem Prins, comments, “The stage and studio lighting industry has embraced LED Engin’s products with enthusiasm over the last two years. Lighting manufacturers have realised the significant benefits offered by compact LED emitters and our technology is now able to deliver the widest possible choice of colours, beam widths and lumen intensity from lighting fixtures. In addition, the individually addressable die enable lighting designers to use flexible control technology to make their original, creative dreams become reality.”

they will be left without a light source during the long lunar night
The future of further human deep space exploration is dependent on the development of many new systems and technologies. And researchers have considered that nuclear-powered state of the art LED technology is “what will drive (the) photosynthesis so necessary to provide both food and oxygen for future lunar colonists.”
Future long-term lunar residents will need to grow their food either in sub-lunar lava tubes or in greenhouses shielded with several meters of lunar surface regolith. With no atmosphere, the moon is regularly exposed to lethal doses of cosmic rays, solar coronal mass ejections and x-flares, not to mention micro-meteorites that would be enough to wreck anyone’s corn.”
“Although during the two weeks that make up the long lunar day astronauts might be able to funnel refracted sunlight into covered greenhouses or subsurface lava tunnels, they will be left without a light source during the long lunar night.”
“Current solar-powered battery storage technology isn’t adequate to sustain artificial light sources for two weeks at the time. Thus, the most practical solution is simply to use some sort of Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (RTG), not unlike the one powering the current Mars Science lab, to power the LEDs that will spur photosynthesis in lunar greenhouses.”

since its size is equivalent to that of halogen lamps
As a tribute to the Indian nationality of the Institute, the facade of the building was fitted with layered coloured led high bay lighting in orange, white and green to represent the national flag. Each separate colour effect was created by using two hundred and twenty coloured LEDs.
The use of this LED technology has enabled the Institute to make a power saving of 70% on external street lighting and 66% on internal lighting. Since the commencement of the installation the Institute has had zero failure on all newly fitted lights and have expressed the intention to extend the use of the e-lamp technology throughout all MSR Institutions.
LEDs feature high luminous efficiency and light-extraction efficiency and also claim superior heat radiation performance. This enables both large currents and high levels of illumination to be achieved for a given area, in turn enabling miniaturization of the module (difficult to attain with conventional LED chips that use sapphire or silicon substrates). The single-core Superline LED (with just one LED module) hence enables the same or higher brightness than a standard, multi-core LED halogen replacement lamp (with multiple LED modules). It is also compatible with existing lighting fixtures for halogen lamps, since its size is equivalent to that of halogen lamps.
The second quarter brought about a transitional period for CRS, setting the stage for expanded opportunities and re-aligning our resources to increase sales and achieve profitability," said Scott Riesebosch, President of LED high bay light. "Our new strategic investor has introduced us to opportunities to reduce production costs and significantly ramp up revenues. As part of the realignment, we are preparing to move production of our LED lamps overseas and use the Canadian base as a distribution centre for our LED products as well as a catalogue of synergistic products sourced through our new investors. The Canadian facility will continue to be utilized for advanced research and development."

the big difference offered by a few enterprises
China National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance have restarted the bid for financial subsidies in 2012 ~ 2013 annual semiconductor lighting products promotion project. And there are 113 enterprises competing for the bid. The bid is estimated to be worth one billion RMB.
Early in February, the government has started the bid, and the scope of subsidies consist s of indoor light, LED spotlight, LED downlight and outdoor LED streetlight. However, it comes to a failure due to the big difference offered by a few enterprises.
This time, the government has entrusted China Electronic Import and Export Corporation to hold the bid on a large scale. Therefore, compared with 20 enterprises got the bid in February. The number of successful bidders is increasing. It schedules to choose 50 enterprises for indoor light, including 25 enterprises for LED downlights and 25 for LED spotlights individually. For outdoor lighting, there are 15 enterprises for LED streetlights and 15 for LED tunnel lights. However, because of repeatable bidder, it estimates that there will be 30 ~ 50 manufacturers benefiting from the subsidies.
Seesmart Technologies, Inc. has completed the installation of LED lighting in two of The Ashforth Company's properties in Connecticut, transforming its spaces and offering a quick return on investment of only 15 months. And it is estimated that the combined savings for the project will be in excess of $200,000.

lights are an ideal replacement for traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting
The ECLIPSE SERIES, which includes the La Cirque Task Light, Rhombus Task Light and Vital Task Light, empowers individuals to personalize their lighting experience, giving them control over lamp heights, arm extensions and dimming levels. Task lights, though often overlooked, can significantly reduce ambient lighting brightness requirements, helping specifiers meet code, facility managers reduce energy costs, designers dress up the beauty of an office and occupants gain control of their own lighting while enjoying the benefits of full spectrum quality light.
Featuring a 5-year warranty and fully recyclable parts, YAHAM task lights are an ideal replacement for traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting.
“With this line of task lights, we are enabling individuals to control their own lighting experiences, one that is highly personal, yet too often underserviced with poor quality light,” said Michael Keddington, CEO of Lunera Lighting. “The modern workspace should have the highest quality of light– that which most closely approximates natural daylight; our new task lights not only achieve this, but offer designers and architects a sleek design to suit any commercial space.”
NexPhase is expanding its efforts in the Energy Saving Lighting end of their distribution efforts and we are honored that they are relying on us to fill these needs…it is a little too soon to predict the amount of business that this new alliance will generate, but I am confident that it will be substantial and will certainly help our bottom line,” said Mr. Falso.

the size of the effect depends on the color
With Light pollution has become a growing problem, and skylines continue to grow, the night sky becomes dimmer and dimmer. However, researchers estimate that that night time sky could become bluer thanks to LED lighting.
Christopher Kyba, physicist at the Freie Universität and lead author of the study, said in a press release that , “The current worldwide trend of replacing gas discharge lamps with solid state lighting, such as LEDs, will affect the radiance and spectrum of urban skyglow.”
Franz Hölker, ecologist at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries and study author, said for nearly all of evolutionary history, clouds have made the night sky darker, just like what we witness during the day time.
However, in areas with artificial light, the effect of clouds is now reversed, and the size of the effect depends on the color. The team found that in Berlin, the blue portion of skyglow is 7 times more radiant on cloudy nights than on clear nights, and 18 times more for the red part.

good visual effect will make tourists immersive in the scene and feel as if they were there
We are executing on our plan to deliver solid profitability in a down revenue year while investing for future growth. At the mid-point of the year, we are tightening our 2012 revenue guidance to between $520 and $560 million. Assuming macro-economic conditions do not worsen, we currently anticipate a gradual order recovery in the second half of 2012.”
Mr. Peeler continued, “MOCVD orders appear to be bumping along the bottom and we have not yet seen a meaningful inflection in customer buying. However, utilization rates are up at key customer facilities in China, Taiwan and Korea, and we have seen a pick-up in quoting activity as customers plan future capacity expansions to ensure their position in LED lighting for 2013 and beyond. We continue to win in the market due to our low cost of ownership solutions that drive customers’ yield and productivity, most recently through our new TurboDisc® ‘M’ and ‘HP’ product suite.”
According to the actual environment and specific requirements, engineers in Unilumin have made the best proposal for this project, that is, to adopt high-end indoor P25 LED displays, which have big pixels, high refresh rate and high grey level. Fluent images and good visual effect will make tourists immersive in the scene and feel as if they were there. In the meantime, it is designed without fan, thus ensuring tourists a comfortable and peaceful environment.
Regarding the structures, framework applied in outdoor LED displays will be used to guarantee safety. Considering that humidity level close to the water is high, aluminum cabinets which are antiseptic would surely be taken advantage of, therefore, it is difficult to get rusty.
