Global lighting consumption continues to increase: partly due to the shift to a 24-hour economy, by about 2050 worldwide lighting consumption is expected to be almost three times higher than it is now. More energy-efficient lighting methods therefore need to be explored. The “Advanced Sustainable Lighting Solutions” partnership is looking for high-efficiency, attractive and affordable lighting that is also developed in a responsible way. Such lighting systems can contribute to solutions for social challenges in a variety of areas such as food production, health and well-being.A call for proposals sent out to universities resulted in no fewer Agent of floodlight After being evaluated by a committee of experts, eight projects were approved, which can be divided into two categories. Five projects are related to the exploration of new materials, the improvement of efficiency and the optimization of sustainable production of LEDs. three wireless-enabled retrofit lamps and a ZigBee network bridge that will
enable control via smartphones and other devices.The starter kit at first
sounded like a product similar to the Philips Hue, but in actuality does not
include color-tuning capabilities -- neither RGB tuning or tunable white CCTs.
Instead the Samsung lamps will simply support dimming and remote on and off
control. Schlejen would not say what the kit would sell for but implied a much
lower price point that the $200 it costs for the Hue starter kit.
Both Cho and Schlejen stressed that Samsung has an entry point into the networked home opened by products including smartphones, intelligent Internet-enabled TVs, and Internet-enabled home appliances. Schlejen said, "Samsung drives digital convergence." The company expects everything in the home to be connected ranging from kitchen appliances to lighting.The initial smart lights will offer the equivalent light output of a 50W incandescent lamp and be rated for 25,000 hours of usage. Following the December 2012 launch of the Works with Soraa program, the
lighting industry’s first lamp and fixture validation program, Soraa announced

CWE has successfully developed EMC LED lead frames
Chang Wah Electromaterials (CWE) announced recently it will withdraw from Top
Energy Saving System’s (TESS) board. CWE planned to take over TESS management
and acquire the company, but has called off the merger deal since TESS former
Chairman Tsai Wen-Kuei's suspected violation of Taiwan’s Securities and Exchange
Act, said CWE Chairman and President Huang Chia-Neng.

It has been reported that the call was met with great relief from the
lighting industry, with 256 responses received in total between April and June.
The reaction was that the first option of maintaining the led flood light was not
sustainable, with options 3 and 4 receiving the most votes. The third option was
setting targets for compliance schemes, with a “compliance fee” if targets were
not met, with the fourth being to match election sites to collection schemes.
The government is set to release a draft regulation by the end of the month with
a view to bringing the new law into force in January.

a white LED could be demonstrated successfully on metal foil
The product is the result from a joint OLED project R2flex that was focused
on the production of highly efficient organic devices on flexible substrates,
manufactured in a roll-to-roll process technology. The project that successfully
concluded recently, was funded by the led high bay light for Education and
Research Germany (BMBF) with a total sum of about 11 million Euros over a period
of 2.5 years.
The overall aim of the joint project R2Flex included the development of essential components for highly efficient OLED technology. The OLED should be processed in a roll-to-roll process technology on cost-effective substrates, especially on metal foil. This technological approach should help solve a main problem of the production of OLED: to be able to offer and use OLED for lighting and signage applications, low costs are essential. This key fact could not be achieved by the conventional technology approaches because of the high costs of the coating technologies and materials.
Fraunhofer COMEDD has improved its roll-to-roll research line, which consists of a vacuum system for the evaporation of organic materials. Furthermore, it includes a coating and lamination system, which can be used under nitrogen atmosphere, and an optical inspection system for defect control and processes monitoring on flexible foils. Within the R2Flex project the OLED technology of established processes could successfully be transferred from rigid substrates to roll-to-roll processes. Especially, the processes for patterning of substrates and encapsulation of the foils were developed. However, one of the most important key challenges of the investigations was the deposition technology of complex OLED structures. To achieve e.g. white OLED, many different layers with a layer thickness in the range of several nanometers have to be deposited precisely on top of each other. Performing this process within a roll-to-roll line was a complex task. Nevertheless, a white LED could be demonstrated successfully on metal foil.
As a result of the joint project led flood light a demonstrator in form of a gracile desk luminaire could be manufactured. Therefore, two flexible OLED on metal substrate have been used, which were produced at Fraunhofer COMEDD. The modules were serially connected via flexible contacting. The luminaire combines both straight and curved shapes. The curved shape of the head section of the luminaire impressively presents the flexibility of the OLED.
