LED streetlights in the third quarter of this year

Liquidleds was co-founded in 2005 by a former iD SoftCapital Group executive. The company reportedly has introduced the first AC LED bulb in the industry. The World Expo 2010 Shanghai, which is to take place from May 1 to Oct. 31, is estimated to attract a total of 70 million visitors worldwide during the six-month exhibition period. And RMB 1 billion worth of business opportunities is expected to be created for the LED industry, estimates the China News Service, a major news agency in the country. The event organizers noted that the China Pavilion will occupy an area of around 160,000 square meters as the largest national pavilion ever seen, and will attract 40,000 visitors per day.

The company said that winning the tender for products used in host country’s pavilion will help pave the way for winning more orders for LED applications in the event and in the country in the future. In 2008, Opto Tech had landed Chinese government’s tender for a large-sized LED sky screen for Olympic Games in Beijing. In mainland China, LEDs are vastly applied to streetlights, tunnel lights, subway lights and interior lights nationwide. This has brought immense business potential to the country’s LED industry. Moreover, the company has already shipped LED backlights for mobile phones and netbook PCs to Taiwanese display panel makers since March, and is scheduled to start delivery of LED streetlights in the third quarter of this year, according to the firm.

Avnet Electronics Marketing China's regional president Frederick Fu provided the audience with insight and guidance on designs to break down the barriers to entering the HB LED market and offered manufacturers a series of ready-to-go green solutions for sustainable, energy efficient lighting products. It covered thermal solution, and turn-key solutions for architecture, general, street and portable lighting.China is undergoing rapid industrialization and faces the dilemma of wanting to promote growth while conserving resources and protecting the environment. China is also a major carbon emitter, accounting for approximately 19% of global CO2 emissions, according to a World Energy Council report, 2008. So, it is clear why getting the environmental equation right when it comes to HB LEDs is so important," said Fu.
