The DiloSpinnbau management team turned to Schahl LED, an international distributor of specialty LED lighting, to help design, test and install the new system. “In side-by-side comparisons, the Digital Lumens Intelligent LED System significantly outperformed fluorescent and basic LED alternatives in lighting quality, controllability and energy savings, making it the first LED solution we’ve seen with the investment returns necessary to justify the switch from fluorescents to LEDs,” said Erich Obermeier of SchahlLED. “As importantly, the efficiency improvements will help insulate DiloSpinnbau from rapidly escalating energy costs, which are on the order of 10 percent per year in Germany.”

efficient LED lighting solution that significantly improved lighting quality

Digital Lumens today announced that DiloSpinnbau, a manufacturer of universal and high-capacity carding machines used to process nonwoven fibers, has upgraded its 6,600 square meter manufacturing facility to the Digital Lumens Intelligent Lighting System, saving 91 percent of its lighting energy costs annually.

By replacing its T8 fluorescent fixtures with the Digital Lumens system, DiloSpinnbau gained a highly controllable and efficient LED lighting solution that significantly improved lighting quality and illumination levels, while saving more than 351,000 kWh of electricity and 200,000 kilos/64 tons of CO2 annually.


By rapidly accumulating energy and maintenance savings, DiloSpinnbau was able to secure an investment payback period of 1.7 years, with annual savings in excess of Euros 72,000, or more than Euros 363,000 over five years. By taking advantage of natural light from the facility’s many skylights and windows, the Intelligent Lighting Systems’ integrated daylight harvesting capabilities increased overall energy savings by 35 percent, adding to the already substantial savings enabled by its built-in occupancy sensors. Maintenance-free, the Intelligent Lighting System also eliminates the re-lamping and re-ballasting costs associated with the previous T8 fluorescent fixtures.

Purdue University researchers discovered that led high bay light can provide a more beneficial light spectrum to greenhouse plants than conventional lighting while using 75 percent less electricity. For about 2,000 years – since Roman emperor Tiberius demanded fresh cucumbers for lunch year ‘round – farmers have been looking for better ways to extend the growing season. Now, a team of researchers led by Purdue University has found a way to grow more produce and save money doing it.Greenhouses and other structures protect crops from harsh environmental conditions. Over the last 50 years or so, some growers have added artificial lighting to compensate for shorter winter days or when conditions are cloudy. However, the problem with most lighting systems is that they are relatively costly to install and do not provide the light spectrum that is most efficient for photosynthesis in plants.

The Purdue-led team of academic and industry scientists from Wisconsin, Michigan, and New Jersey is using grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to investigate the use of LED to address this problem. The researchers have designed LEDs that produce the exact light quality plants need to thrive while using only a fraction of the electricity used by high-pressure sodium lamps—the current industry standard. In experiments in West Lafayette, IN, the team’s led flood light systems used 75 percent less electricity to produce the same product yield. There are currently about 4,200 acres of greenhouses in the United States that use supplemental lighting. If LED systems were installed in each of these greenhouses, energy use could be reduced by 3.5 billion kilowatt hours. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a reduction of that much energy would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 3 million tons per year.

Japan's Quantum Lighting Products Limited will team up with Future Lighting Solutions, a division of Future Electronics to develop an led floodlights retrofit for E26-base incandescent light bulbs.

In this cooperation, Future Lighting Solutions will provide engineering assistance, such as input on LED board layout, thermal management, consultation on board assembly on the production line, as well as inventory management services to ensure that Quantum receives LEDs from selected color, flux and forward voltage bins for consistent appearance and performance.

In addition, the retrofits utilize LUXEON Rebel LEDs, are being marketed through Japanese retail stores under the country's well-known Elpa brand, and are available in four cool and warm white models designed to replace 40W and 60W bulbs.

Each 4W or 5.5W retrofit bulb contains three or five LUXEON Rebel led high bay light, lasts up to 40,000 hours, and consumes 1/10 the energy of its incandescent counterpart.PT Panasonic Gobel Indonesia (PGI), cooperation by Japanese electronics manufacturer Panasonic Corporation and the Gobel corporate family, has discussed how to develop its industry in Indonesia.Panasonic had made Indonesia its global production base for several products, including batteries and LED lamps. New lithium coin battery factory in Indonesia is expected to start operation in November.

It displays high definition video content

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has completed installation of a 1,513-inch Diamond Vision large-scale display system, which instead of the previous CRT screens installed in 1996, and becomes the second largest display at a Japanese boat racecourse and the largest in the Kyushu area.

It displays high-definition video content, incorporates high-luminance LEDs aligned vertically and horizontally in a 15-millimeter dot pitch and the latest digital screen controllers.


The display system faces the main stand across the racing surface, and will flexibly display a variety of programs such as dynamic live race videos, contestant profiles, odds, order of arrival and other gaming information.

Kaneka will only produce OLEDs on glass using vapor deposition

With the development of this new chip, the company will further develop a series of LED driver LSIs that support applications for displays with high picture quality across a wide range of sizes.

Kaneka is also showing some new OLED lamp prototypes (shown above and below). The "Light Object" above uses three separate lamps which you can arrange in various ways. Each lamp has its own battery (lasts for an hour) and the base is the charger. In the desk lamp (shown below) the base acts as a dimmer and an on/off switch - which you can simply control by touching.


Kaneka aims to achieve ¥20 billion in sales within five years and ¥100 billion   in sales within 10 years. The company also announced that they acquired the OLED lighting business of Tohuko Device. Kaneka will only produce OLEDs on glass using vapor deposition and does not have any plans to print OLEDs.
