Although an integrated communications strategy will be required to educate people about the impressive energy and money saving benefits of solid state technology, the appropriate standards and regulations must also be introduced to ensure that information is accurate and easily available. An issue that is ripe for reassessment is the set of standards by which lighting technologies are measured. These systems have often been unrepresentative of technology quality and put LED assets at a disadvantage; an obvious example being the LED high bay light practice of measuring the light quality at the point at which a bulb is first switched on rather than over its lifespan, thereby failing to reflect the long life and enduring quality of LED technology. The purpose of standards should be to evaluate technologies and protect consumers – and they must do so adequately and fairly.
It is not enough for such standards to exist; they must be accessible and present in the minds of consumers and other purchasers such as procurement professionals. The easiest way to achieve this would be to include the relevant information on packaging, which would facilitate like-for-like comparisons at point of purchase and allow price to be weighed against factors such as efficiency. After all, consumers will hesitate to pay more for a technology if its advantages are not immediately apparent and, unsurprisingly, 23% of customers surveyed by Consumer Reports cited cost as a key reason for avoiding LEDs.
Simply waiting for LEDs to reduce in price enough to no longer be considered an “investment” purchase is not an option for two reasons. First, becoming engaged in a battle to artificially drive down costs puts at risk the very thing that makes LEDs stand out in the lighting market - the superiority of their technology. Second, it is vital that we do not fail to capitalise on the change in purchasing LED linear high bay light behaviour that will result from familiar incandescent bulbs disappearing from the marketplace.
LED technology offers coherent efficiency, environmental and financial advantages across the board. It is crucial that we as an industry ensure these benefits do not stay in the shadows but are brought into the light for all to see.

The future of further human deep space exploration is dependent on the development of many new systems and technologies. And researchers have considered that nuclear-powered state of the art LED technology is “what will drive (the) photosynthesis so necessary to provide both food and oxygen for future lunar colonists.”
Future long-term lunar residents will need to grow their food either in sub-lunar lava tubes or in greenhouses shielded with several meters of lunar surface regolith. With no atmosphere, the moon is regularly exposed to lethal doses of cosmic rays, solar coronal mass ejections and x-flares, not to mention micro-meteorites that would be enough to wreck anyone’s corn.”

As a tribute to the Indian nationality of the Institute, the facade of the building was fitted with layered coloured led high bay lighting in orange, white and green to represent the national flag. Each separate colour effect was created by using two hundred and twenty coloured LEDs.
The use of this LED technology has enabled the Institute to make a power saving of 70% on external street lighting and 66% on internal lighting. Since the commencement of the installation the Institute has had zero failure on all newly fitted lights and have expressed the intention to extend the use of the e-lamp technology throughout all MSR Institutions.
LEDs feature high luminous efficiency and light-extraction efficiency and also claim superior heat radiation performance. This enables both large currents and high levels of illumination to be achieved for a given area, in turn enabling miniaturization of the module (difficult to attain with conventional LED chips that use sapphire or silicon substrates). The single-core Superline LED (with just one LED module) hence enables the same or higher brightness than a standard, multi-core LED halogen replacement lamp (with multiple LED modules). It is also compatible with existing lighting fixtures for halogen lamps, since its size is equivalent to that of halogen lamps.

Semi LEDs, with cooperation of Integrated System Technology(IST), is proud to announce that its S35 product line has successfully completed the requirements of the stringent 6000 hour lumen maintenance test (LED high bay light) and the results showed an extrapolated lifetime of up to 50,000 hours.
SemiLEDs’ S35 series is the first product to pass the LM-80 after IST’s received the accreditation from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The results of other products will be down the pipeline, including the newly launched C35 family. In the Asian market, SemiLEDs is one of the few packaging companies that passed the test on a certified third party basis.

To sezie the opportunity in China, the alliance has established a company called Fujian Coastal E-Lighting Technology Co. in cooperation with Chinese partners, Chien said.
Tong said the company will be responsible for taking orders in China and forwarding them to the alliance, in an effort to avoid fire-sale schemes that will cause prices to slide.
Tong also serves as the chief of the Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories under the Industrial Technology Research Institute.
The contract will see more than 4,500 bulbs replaced with LED lamps by Birse Civils. In addition, the firm will also replace approximately 800 full street lighting units and a control management system which will allow the operating times and lighting levels to be controlled remotely.
Only residential and link roads will be included in the upgrade programme and streets will be identified using criteria including the technology already in place, potential energy savings and the condition of current lighting.
Councillor Peter Hiller, the city council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning, said: “We have already replaced 1,200 street lamps with the new energy efficient bulbs so I am delighted that we are now in a position to replace at least a further 4,600.”

China National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance have restarted the bid for financial subsidies in 2012 ~ 2013 annual semiconductor lighting products promotion project. And there are 113 enterprises competing for the bid. The bid is estimated to be worth one billion RMB.
Early in February, the government has started the bid, and the scope of subsidies consist s of indoor light, LED spotlight, LED downlight and outdoor LED streetlight. However, it comes to a failure due to the big difference offered by a few enterprises.
This time, the government has entrusted China Electronic Import and Export Corporation to hold the bid on a large scale. Therefore, compared with 20 enterprises got the bid in February. The number of successful bidders is increasing. It schedules to choose 50 enterprises for indoor light, including 25 enterprises for LED downlights and 25 for LED spotlights individually. For outdoor lighting, there are 15 enterprises for LED streetlights and 15 for LED tunnel lights. However, because of repeatable bidder, it estimates that there will be 30 ~ 50 manufacturers benefiting from the subsidies.
